The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has detailed regulations on walking-working surfaces, found in 29 CFR Part 1910, Support D. These include exact specifications for ladders as well as stairways. These regulations were created for the protection of general industry employees and employers from hazards associated with walking-working surfaces. The rulemaking will significantly reduce the number of worker deaths and injuries that occur each year resulting from workplace slip, trip, and fall hazards.
